MISSION STATEMENT

At Maquinna Elementary School, it is our goal to work together to develop the whole child by providing a caring, child-centered environment that encourages positive involvement and growth.  In order to facilitate the development of this environment, we actively support a school code of conduct.  The purpose of this document is to provide a basic framework and common expectations for Maquinna School.  The guidelines reflect the new provincial standards for "Codes of Conduct".

Statement of Purpose:

To establish and maintain a safe, caring and orderly environment for learning.

The Code of Conduct was developed and approved by students, parents and staff at Maquinna Elementary School in 2007.  Each student from kindergarten to grade five was asked "What they liked about Maquinna." and "What they would like more of at Maquinna." Parents and staff were given the opportunity to express their wishes for our school.  Small group meetings with students and parents met to identify common words of themes.  Student then voted on student developed acronyms based on positive behaviours and virtues currently used in the school  The word STARS was used as an acronym to allow students to easily recall our Code of Conduct.
